South Jersey Neighborhood in Need of Long-Term Solution for Speeding Drivers
Speeding is a 24-hour problem, but there are certain times when speeding drivers endanger our most vulnerable citizens. In a particular South Jersey neighborhood, residents often awaken to the roar of vehicles flying past their homes at speeds of 75 – 85 miles per hour. These same residents, who have monitored traffic repeatedly, report that nearly 70% of drivers exceed the speed limit by 20 mph or more!
The worst times for speeding along Grassy Lake Road is from 6:30 – 7:30 a.m. This is the time that children are heading to school and early commuters are leaving for work. State police have gotten involved and have stepped up their ticketing. Residents have shared their concerns with the Shamong Township Committee. Although they all agree on the problem, they have not reached consensus on a solution. Some residents would like to see speed humps. Others countered that the speed humps would create a noise nuisance
Since police officers cannot monitor Grassy Lake Road constantly, Radarsign™ driver feedback signs may be the perfect solution for Shamong residents. Radar speed signs are a self-policing speeding deterrent. By providing drivers with information about their actions, they are likely to choose better behaviors. Additionally, studies prove that the driver feedback signs offer a consistent, long-term reduction in speeding.
