Knowledge is Power: MnDOT Delivers Deadly Advice to Wake Up Motorists
The Minnesota Department of Transportation has begun using overhead message boards to flash statistics of speeding fatalities to alert drivers to the effects of lead-footed driving. These message boards are the same as the ones normally used to inform drivers of detours, travel times, lane closings, construction and crashes. The hope is that when drivers associate their hurry with the potential consequences of speeding, they will slow down and lives will be saved. Driver feedback signs work the same way. They show drivers that they are speeding, so they can take immediate action to slow down. Knowledge is power.
The goal is to save lives, and driver feedback signs are scientifically proven to slow speeding drivers and they accomplish this in a cost-effective way.
